Dear Machinists Sisters and Brothers,
Over the past week, we all watched in horror as Hurricane Irma grew into a category 5 storm and made its destructive way through the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Florida, leaving behind a trail of debris and devastation.
Irma’s destruction comes on the heels of Hurricane Harvey, which has left much of Houston and the Texas/Louisiana Gulf Coast in peril.
These regions are home to tens of thousands of our Machinist family, and they need our help.
The 2018 IAM Scholarship Competition is now accepting applications. The competition is open to members of the IAM and their children throughout the United States and Canada under procedures and rules of eligibility explained in this announcement. The IAM Scholarship Fund, which is used exclusively to make possible these awards, was established by the delegates of the 1960 IAM Grand Lodge Convention.

Due to the hurricane in Florida, the TWU/IAM Association and American Airlines have mutually decided to cancel contract negotiations next week. The safety of the Association’s members and representatives is of paramount importance and travel at this time is not advised. Negotiations are scheduled to resume on the following weeks: October 2nd in Washington DC and October 16th in New York City.
