Heavy Hearts at the Passing of Richard Pascarella

Our hearts are heavy today as we share the sad news of the passing of Assistant General Chair and our friend and Brother Richard Pascarella. He died suddenly on Saturday in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Brother Pascarella started his career at United Airlines in 1989, where he joined IAMAW Capital Lodge 1759 in Herndon, VA. He began serving IAM members as Shop Steward, and later held leadership positions at the local lodge as Educator, EAP Representative, Grievance Committee Chair, Vice President and President. American Airlines Presents Insulting Scope Proposal, AGAIN!

The Association Executive Negotiating Committee met with American Airlines on July 24th in Washington, D.C. to continue the discussion about comprehensive Scope proposals.

During this session, it became very obvious to your committee that the company isn’t hearing your displeasure about their previous Scope proposals. While there was some movement for our M&R group, their strategy on Fleet continues to be presenting us with inadequate Scope language and hoping for a different outcome.

American Airlines Fails to Honor their Word

As was reported earlier, the Association Executive Negotiating Committee met with American Airlines June 25th through June 27th in Washington, DC.  During those meetings, your committee and the company made some progress in Scope discussions and it was agreed that the company would deliver a comprehensive Scope proposal prior to our next meeting on July 17th.

THEY DID NOT!

This President’s Report brings with it very news bad news and with that bad news comes a call to action.

As most of you know by now the Supreme Court ruled against unions in Janus vs AFSCME dealing a huge blow to public-sector unions and the labor movement in general. This now means that public-sector employees around the nation will no longer have to pay fees or dues to their unions, even if those unions collectively bargain on behalf of those employees, negatively impacting union membership and revenues nationwide.

The joint Alaska Airlines Negotiating Committee continued negotiations with Alaska Airlines management July 10-12, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada.  This session was dedicated to RSSA contract issues.

Represented by the Company were: Greg Mays, Vice President/Labor; Wayne Newton, Vice President/AOCS; Jason Barry, Managing Director/Cargo; Bob Hartnett, Labor Director; Denise Kliskey, COPS Labor Manager; Melinda Maher, Division Controller;  and, Rebecca Meissner, Company Attorney.

The Women’s Committee is accepting school supplies (paper, 1 subject notebooks, pencils, eraser’s, colored pencils, crayons, pens, glue sticks, rulers, pencil boxes, hand sanitizers, Kleenex tissues, ect…..) for “Renaissance West Steam Academy.”
