Introducing the Summer 2021 IAM Journal

The IAM Communication Department is proud to announce the release of the Summer 2021 IAM Journal. The latest edition of the IAM’s flagship publication is hitting mailboxes now and is available online.

While COVID-19 has changed how we do things, hasn’t change the mission of the Machinists Union. As we continue to fight for our members, our members continue to fight for each other. In the Summer 2021 IAM Journal, you can read the stories of IAM members working to bring justice on the job and growing the union, even during a global pandemic.

Please enjoy the latest edition of the IAM Journal, along with the following message from IAM International President Robert Martinez Jr.:

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

We are now more than a year removed from the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s been a difficult road. We have not only lost members to layoffs and furloughs, but families have lost their loved ones to this terrible pandemic.

But in the true Fighting Machinists fashion, our union has banded together. Our membership is on the front lines responding to this crisis. We have built ventilators that save lives, tended to the sick in hospitals and helped transport vaccines across North America and the world.

We have also fought for—and won—the relief that our members and working families so desperately need in these difficult times. Thanks to our activism, emergency relief checks have kept the lights on and food on the table. Unemployment assistance has helped thousands get back on their feet. We won unprecedented relief for members in our hardest hit industries like the airlines, public transit and aerospace.

Despite all the obstacles in front of us, our union has remained strong and ready to fight. We continue to negotiate industry-leading contracts and organize new members to help us all become stronger. Our mission remains the same—justice on the job and service to the community.

As the IAM marks 133 years since our founding in 1888, I am reminded of all the challenges we have overcome in our great history. Our great union has made it through depressions, wars, pandemics and more. We have always survived, and thrived, because of our solidarity. This time will be no different.

Together, we are going to make it through this. We are union family—and families stick together. Moving forward as one union, we will prevail.

In solidarity,

Robert Martinez Jr.

International President
