Southwest Airlines Negotiations Update – March 13, 2020

March 13, 2020

Your Negotiating Committee met with Southwest Airlines Management, under the auspices of the National Mediation Board (NMB), March 10-12, 2020, at the Kansas City Airport Marriott. Your Committee came motivated and eager to reach an agreement deserving of the membership. Over the course of our sessions, we worked late into the night meeting with the Company, diligently going over proposals, reevaluating language and ‘thinking out of the box’ in an effort to bring our negotiations to a close.

Unfortunately, due to outside circumstances, namely the COVID-19 crisis, we were unable to reach an agreement. The nationwide pandemic, while in its infancy, definitely motivated both the Company and your Union in settling all open issues. However, the open items did not come together in order to close out our negotiations. Your Committee remains steadfast in achieving a contract worthy of an award winning airline – awards won by you – Southwest employees.

While disappointed that an agreement could not be reached, it is important to note that we cannot just reach an agreement. We must reach the right agreement.

Future negotiations dates have yet to be determined. Your continued solidarity and support are appreciated.
