Tens of Thousands of Airline Workers Furloughed, But PSP Extension Still Possible

October 1, 2020 Admin 0

October 1, 2020

The midnight deadline to extend the airline Payroll Support Program (PSP) has come and gone without action from Washington, DC.

“Tens of thousands of IAM members and other airline employees woke up unemployed today,” said General Vice President Sito Pantoja. “They did not lose their jobs because of COVID-19. They did not lose their jobs because of decisions made by airline executives. Airline workers lost their jobs today because the politicians who were elected to protect them failed to take action in a timely manner to save them.”

The Machinists Union recognized the need for additional government … Read More...

IAM-represented transportation workers are on the front lines, taking on greater responsibilities. As essential workers, you have put your health at … Read More...

ACT NOW: Airlines Begin Furloughs as Payroll Protection Draws Near

August 26, 2020 Admin 0

August 25, 2020

Currently, most of our members are at work, receiving a paycheck and have their benefits still intact, even though the airline industry has taken a severe hit because of COVID-19. This is possible due to the Paycheck Support Program (PSP) contained in the CARES Act. Unfortunately, the CARES Act is set to expire October 1. As a result, many of our airlines have started preparing for reductions by issuing Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifications (WARN) notices to their employees. Just today, American Airlines announced they will begin issuing furlough notices beginning Thursday. Over 800 Mechanic and Related … Read More...

Support Extension of CARES Act NOW!

July 16, 2020 Admin 0

July 16, 2020

Since early this year, the airline industry has faced unprecedented impacts from the COVID-19 virus. Passenger loads, normally in the millions per day, are only now in the thousands. Airlines have parked hundreds of their aircraft and reduced flights to a fraction of what they normally flew.

While we saw an increase in the number of people flying, recently many states are now seeing an increase in COVID-19 infections. Some states are reinstating their “stay at home” orders or closing many of their businesses. As a result, bookings are dropping again.

During all of this at our … Read More...

It’s About Life or Death

June 2, 2020 Admin 0

June 2, 2020

In the past few months, we have all been dealing with the deadly global COVID-19 pandemic and the unprecedented collapse of our economy. While we have a lot of work to do on these fronts, these are issues that will be resolved with time, science and sound policies.

Many Americans have been dealing with an even worse disease for generations, and it is one that cannot be resolved quickly or with a vaccine. The illness is racism, it spreads even faster than COVID-19, and it has evidently infected the White House.

At a time when people are … Read More...
