Southwest Airlines Ratification Meeting Date and Times Update

Brothers and Sisters:

Please note, all meetings in all reservation centers will now be held from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. local time, to allow all members the opportunity to participate in the meeting and vote.

Also, the Sarasota (SRQ) meeting will be held on October 30th, in the Breakroom, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. local time.

Please take the time to attend the meeting, ask any questions or concerns, and cast your ballot.

IAM Southwest Airlines Ratification Details

Brothers and Sisters:

Question and Answer sessions will occur alongside with voting. Negotiators and General Chairs will be present in each location to explain all changes made, and available to answer questions. 

Only members in good standing will be allowed to participate in the ratification process.

Members will be able to vote in any location; however, everyone must have a Company badge or government issued picture i.d.

There is no provision for absentee ballots under the IAM Constitution. Members must vote in person.

IAM Southwest Airlines Negotiations – Tentative Agreement Highlights

Sisters and Brothers:

After continuation of Negotiations, being conducted under the guidance of the National Mediation Board with Mediator Gerry McGuckin, a Tentative Agreement (TA) has been reached between the IAM and the Company.

Economic gains and financial job security resulting in a 12% wage increase over three (3) years for the membership. Here are the highlights of the new Agreement:

  • 4% wage increase on date of ratification (DOR)
  • 3% increase DOR +12 months
  • 3% increase DOR +24 months
  • 2% increase DOR +36 months
  • Improved Mandatory Overtime Language
    • Enhanced language for rest rule
    • Thirty-Two (32) hour monthly cap on Mandatory

Your Negotiating Committee met with Southwest Airlines Management, under the auspices of the National Mediation Board (NMB), March 10-12, 2020, at the Kansas City Airport Marriott. Your Committee came motivated and eager to reach an agreement deserving of the membership. Over the course of our sessions, we worked late into the night meeting with the Company, diligently going over proposals, reevaluating language and ‘thinking out of the box’ in an effort to bring our negotiations to a close.

We have been advised by the National Mediation Board (NMB) that our first negotiations session with Mediator Victoria Gray will be held March 10 through 12 in Kansas City, Missouri. We look forward to Ms. Gray’s assistance in obtaining the contract you – the membership — deserve.

Your Negotiation Committee met at the Marriott Suites Medical/Market Center in Dallas, Texas. February 25 – 27, 2020 to prepare for mediation. We briefly met with the company but were unable to resolve our remaining concerns.

After more than two years of negotiations with Southwest Airlines, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) today announced it invoked its right to mediation with the National Mediation Board (NMB) to help resolve the dispute over a new contract for 7,852 Southwest Airlines Passenger Service and Reservation employees.

Negotiations continued January 21 – 23, 2020 at Southwest Airlines Headquarters Dallas, Texas. Discussions took place with Articles Six (Hours of Service) and Twenty-Seven (Wage Rules). The company’s position remains the same and no further movement continued with Article Seven (Overtime). Your committee worked with the remaining open articles.
