Turbulent Week for Airline Members Ends

October 3, 2020 Admin 0

Sisters and Brothers:
This week has been a very uncertain time for many of our members. Many of our carriers had issued WARN notices a month or so ago and furlough notices were given to affected members earlier in September. During this time, all the airline executives told all the workers that if the CARES Act were extended, all furloughs would be rescinded, and everyone would continue employment.

Unfortunately, despite airline CEOs, labor leaders from all unions, and phone calls, office visits and social media pleas to US legislators, we are now past the original CARES Act expiration date and … Read More...

September 25, 2020 David Supplee 0

September 24, 2020

Sisters and Brothers:

Over the past month, the leaders of most of the major airlines, along with union leadership and members have been on Capitol Hill to push Congress to act immediately to pass a clean extension of the Payroll Support Program (PSP). There are only six days remaining before the PSP expires, and without a clean extension, hundreds of thousands of airline workers face the possibility of being furloughed.

We need all our members, their families, and friends to contact their senators to get Congress to act NOW before the current PSP expires. It only takes … Read More...

August 26, 2020

American Airlines announced plans to eliminate the jobs of “at least” 40,000 employees.

The furloughs would begin within hours of the expiration of the Payroll Support Program (PSP), the section of the CARES Act scheduled to end on October 1, just over a month before Election Day. The IAM has responded by calling on members to make a last stand on Capitol Hill and redouble efforts to convince lawmakers to renew funding for the PSP, which has stalled in the Senate. Airline executives agree that legislative action, if taken soon, would prevent the job cuts.

July 28, 2020 Admin 0

July 28, 2020

The IAM along with other aviation unions are lauding 223 bipartisan members of Congress for calling for an extension of the CARES Act Payroll Support Program (PSP) through March 31, 2021. The program, which allocated grants to commercial airlines and airline contractors for the exclusive purpose of keeping employees on payroll with wages and benefits, is set to expire September 30, 2020.

House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Peter DeFazio (D-OR) led the letter to congressional leadership.

“The IAM thanks the 223 members of Congress for swiftly responding to the airline industry’s call for an extension of
