Labor Day weekend is usually a time to celebrate all working people, for us to enjoy and reflect on our hard work, and to remember all of our well-earned achievements this past year. This year, however, takes on a different tone.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forever changed our lives and the way we do our jobs. Many of our union sisters and brothers have lost their jobs or, worse, suffered the loss of a loved one.
IAM-represented transportation workers are on the front lines, taking on greater responsibilities. As essential workers, you have put your health at risk every day to help move goods and the traveling public across this country.
The Machinists Union is proud that one of our members founded Labor Day, and your courage and commitment exemplified during these trying times continues the tradition established by our forefathers over 100 years ago.
I cannot thank you enough for all your hard work and dedication in keeping America running. You are an inspiration to every Machinist and American. On behalf of the Transportation Department, I wish everyone and your families a safe and Happy Labor Day.
