“Sisters and brothers, today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a civil rights activist and leader in the movement to end racial segregation in the United States. He was committed to peace, non-violent protest and equality for all.
Throughout his life, Dr. King also stood up for union rights. One of his phrases was: “All labor has dignity.” As we celebrate his legacy today, it seems that there isn’t a more important time than now for us to remember those words and to follow Dr. King’s example in fighting for union rights as human rights.”
