The phrase “Know Your Enemy” is a saying derived from Sun Tzu’s “Art of War.” As a union we often mistake the company as our enemy. The company may be our adversary, but it is not our enemy. The two however are interconnected. As a Union our enemy is membership apathy. Apathy is defined as “a state of indifference” and it is the life blood of inaction. Inaction is the lifeblood of our adversary.

Unions are only as strong as their members level of engagement. When Unions are in tough times and they need strength to achieve what their members want and deserve, it is membership action that gives them that strength. If you are not actively supporting your Union when they need you, then you are by default supporting your adversary/company. There is no middle ground in these moments. Apathy is not an option. You’re either fighting to get what you want or you are complicit in your adversary’s efforts to give you as little as possible.

The time is now.

Your Union needs you to be engaged, informed, and active in it’s efforts to get you what you deserve.

Don’t let apathy decide what your future will be. If you have questions about what you need to do to support your Union, see your Union steward or representative.
