The NC State Council of Machinists gathered at Pine Knolls, Atlantic Beach, NC on 26 April for its convention.

We had a two day session of business with speakers from the IAM, AFL-CIO as well as a candidate for office.

We discussed the upcoming primaries and the screenings we accomplished throughout the state to vet candidates. A discussion was held on the funding and means to sponsor the vetted candidates. NC State AFL-CIO Southern Piedmont Central Labor Council Legislative breakfast

Members of our Legislative Committee attended the NC State AFL-CIO Southern Piedmont Central Labor Council Legislative breakfast hosted by the IBEW.

Maureen Kelly, Renae Miller, Charlie Hines and Helena Thornton volunteered their time on Saturday, February 25th to listen and be involved in discussion with invited guests that included Senator Joel Ford and NC House Representatives Chaz Beasley, Mary Belk and John Torbett.

The two main topics of discussion were raising wages within the next 5 years to $15.00 starting minimum and restoring unemployment benefits at were slashed in 2013.

South Carolina Boeing Workers to Vote on IAM Representation

Boeing workers who build the 787 Dreamliner in North Charleston, SC will have the chance to vote to join the IAM.

The IAM filed a petition on January 20, with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to hold a secret-ballot union election for approximately 2,850 production employees at the Boeing Co. in North Charleston, S.C.

IAM Legislative Conference a Success in Washington, DC

During our most recent trip on May 9th to the Legislative Conference held in Washington DC, myself and Greg Lance from the 1725 Legislative Committee had the opportunity to spend numerous hours on Capitol Hill lobbying on issues that directly affect our members.

We visited several members in the US House and Senate taking on issues like Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), Glass Stegal Act Repeal, Assaults on Customer Service Agents and many other issues.
