May 24 is the birthday of Charles E. Taylor, the mechanic who built the engine for the Wright Brothers’ first airplane. We celebrate his birthday by designating each May 24 as National Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Day.

Aircraft mechanics, students, airlines, aircraft manufactures, support companies and aviation organizations all over the United States celebrate this day to recognize the dedication, expertise and craft of the men and women who keep our aircraft flying safely each and every day.

Congratulations to Mike Martin on his Retirement

Mike took advantage of the recent VEOP from American Airlines and now moves onto the next phase of his life after a 41 1/2 year career in aviation.

Mike had a long and interesting career in aviation. He was hired in December of 1977 by PSA and through mergers and moves he worked for USAir, US Airways and American. Mike retired on April 1, 2020.

In light of the recent events involving the white van lurking around catering, it is at this time I ask that ALL airport employees receive training on how to recognize Human Trafficking.

Informational Picketing – CLT – March 28, 2019

Informational picketing sessions were held Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Association members from IAM Victory Lodge 1725, along with General Chairs from District Lodges 142 and 141 and TWU members from around the country picketed at the Departures area of the airport terminal and the entrance to the airport at Little Rock Rd and Wilkinson Blvd.

Association of Professional Flight Attendants Picketing in CLT Sunday!

The Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) will be holding a picket at the Charlotte airport this coming Sunday, November 18th.

Any members of Victory Lodge 1725 who can show up to give some support and show Solidarity for our Flight Attendants are encouraged to do so! Even if you can just come out to the hotel parking lot for a few minutes as a show of union strength this would be a great support for another of our unions at American who are standing up to management.

The Flight Safety Department has posted an ASAP Bulletin and a new reference guide to the Flight Safety Page. This information is also available on the ASAP JetNet page, the AMT homepage banner and has been released via crew talks (line maintenance only).

In 2001, the FAA created the created the prestigious Charles E. Taylor Master Mechanic Award to honor AMTs, who had served at least 50 years in aircraft maintenance.  The following year, California Senator Knight introduced a resolution honoring Aviation Maintenance Technicians annually in honor of Charles Taylor’s birthday.  Charles Taylor was the machinist who built the engine to turn the Wright Glider into the first powered aircraft.
