This Fall at the 39th annual IAMAW Grand Lodge Convention International President Bob Martinez stated that the most important challenge that our union faces is organizing. This organizing effort involves educating unrepresented workers on what makes a union work and explaining to them the many benefits of belonging to a union. Mr. Martinez further stated that organizing must be a part of our culture and that we must live it 24/7 to survive and thrive as a union.

Tuition Can Be a Burden – Apply for an IAM Scholarship to Help

The 2017 IAM Scholarship Competition is now accepting applications. The deadline for submissions is February 24, 2017.

The IAM awards scholarships to:

  • Children of IAM members (parent or guardian) applying for college
  • Children of IAM members (parent or guardian) applying for vocational or technical school
  • IAM members applying for college

Since its implementation in 1960, the Scholarship Competition has continued to grow. This past year, 2015-2016, the IAM received 294 applications for scholarships. The 16 scholarships awarded were valued at $72,000.

The Association Mechanic & Related/Stores Negotiating Committee met with American Airlines the week of November 14th in DFW.  During this week’s session, the Committee exchanged and discussed the following articles:

Hours of Service – M&R, MLS & MCT – We exchanged multiple proposals on this Article in an effort to reach closure. As we closed the week, we believe that we are close to reaching a tentative agreement.

DL 141 Fleet Negotiations Update November 18th, 2016

The Fleet Service Committee met with American Airlines this week in DFW.

This week, we focused on overtime and vacations, and during this session we exchanged multiple proposals and held several lengthy deliberations. We understand that these articles are very important to the membership and the complexity of the two separate agreements requires extensive attention to detail in the language proposed.  While we have not reached tentative agreements with the company, we have reduced the outstanding issues in these articles.

DL 141 Fleet Negotiations Update November 11th, 2016

The Fleet Service Committee met with American Airlines this week in Las Vegas. The company presented their plan and implementation for cross utilization to Maintenance and Related.   In continued solidarity, we supported our Association brothers and sisters until there was a satisfactory understanding between the company and the Union.

American Airlines Workers Industry Best Pay Rates Go into Effect

This month, approximately 30,000 ground workers at American Airlines will see their industry-leading wage rates reflected in their paychecks.  The wage increases for the TWU/IAM Association represented workers will average approximately 22 percent.  Mechanic and Related workers will surpass by three percent similarly classified workers at Delta Airlines.  Fleet Service, Stores/Material Logistic Specialists and Maintenance Training Specialists’ wages will increase one percent ahead of their peers at United Airlines.
