American Airlines Vaccine Mandate Update

October 23, 2021 Admin 0

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

The Association conducted a follow-up call today with American Airlines regarding the vaccine mandate.  The Company continues to work through the religious and medical accommodations submitted by the membership. Two items that we were informed of today include those members who have had Covid-19 recently and how they should handle being accommodated since they cannot get the vaccination at this time. Those members should put in for a medical exemption and request for a Covid-19 vaccine deferral until such time they can get vaccinated. The second question  answered was if there would be an exception for … Read More...

Southwest Airlines Vaccine Mandate Update

October 22, 2021 Admin 0

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

Yesterday, Southwest leadership met with all labor leaders for an update on the Vaccine Mandate Policy and the potential enforcement process. The company explained the accommodation procedures, as it is currently being considered by the carrier, and is urging employees to file requests for such exemptions. The company will actively engage in processing and approving the requests on an individual basis in a reasonable manner. Although Southwest Airlines is still in the process of determining what these accommodations will be, what is certain, unpaid leaves of absences and terminations are off the table.

October 15, 2021

Sisters and Brothers:

Recently, we had been advised by one of our companies that they saw posts on social media calling for job action by our members. Let me be very clear, the union does NOT support job actions that violate the current labor agreements. All contracts provide for processes to have disputes resolved. Please review your contracts or reach out to your union reps if you have concerns or need clarification. Also, be aware of your company’s social media policy.

We understand emotions are at their peak over the federal mandate. We have had discussions with … Read More...

Association Response to American’s Vaccine Mandate

October 5, 2021 Admin 0

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

American Airlines Labor Relations contacted the TWU-IAM Association on Friday
afternoon to inform us that the carrier would announce some changes to the Covid-19
vaccination protocol and how these changes will affect American Airlines employees,
including those represented by the TWU/IAM Association.

American’s communication was open ended and vague. The Association Leadership will
engage American’s senior leadership to discuss what exactly is management’s plan. We
want to discuss what options management is proposing for those Association members who
chose or are unable to comply with the Company’s vaccine mandate.

We certainly understand the frustration some members … Read More...

September 14, 2021

The Biden administration recently ordered the U.S. Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to develop a rule requiring employers with 100 or more employees to ensure their workforce is fully vaccinated or require unvaccinated workers to produce a weekly negative COVID-19 test result.

The IAM will closely examine the final rule and its full effect on different industries and employers once the rule is final.

“The IAM places the highest priority on the health and safety of our members at all times,” said IAM International President Robert Martinez Jr. “We continue to demand that employers … Read More...
