On June 18 – 20, 2019, your Committee met with the Company in Dallas, Texas at Southwest Airlines Headquarters to continue contract negotiations.  This week an Agreement in Principle was reached for Letter of Understanding with Temporary Assignment Guidelines-Customer Service Agents.  The Company responded with Article Eleven (Filling of Vacancies) which prompted constructive discussions with regards to this Article as well as Articles Five (Classification), Six (Hours of Service), Seven (Overtime) and Ten (Part-Time Employees).

The Union and the Company met the week of June 3, 2019 in Dallas, Texas to continue our contract negotiations.

Topics of discussion were Articles 5, 7 and 11. There are opposing viewpoints regarding Article 7, regarding the use of mandatory overtime (MOT). Your committee is resolute in delivering a contract that insures we, as members of the IAM and employees of SWA, enjoy a quality of life deserving of working women and men.

Negotiations will continue June 18 – 20, 2019.

Negotiations continued in Dallas the week of May 20.   Due to the shortened schedule, the Company met with the District 142 General Chairs.
The week’s focus centered on reaching acceptable language regarding Article 7 (Overtime).  Southwest management’s view on mandatory overtime assignment remains the same and remains wholly unacceptable. Shuffling the order in which our sisters and brothers are forced to work mandatory overtime is not the answer, nor is it fair to the people who have made Southwest the largest and the most consistently profitable domestic airline in the United States.

The last two rounds of negotiations occurred April 16-17 and May 15-16, 2019 at Southwest Airlines Headquarters Dallas, Texas.

On April 16-17, we had encouraging dialog with the Company and we made progress on Article Seven (Overtime). We addressed rest rule language as well as problematic Mandatory Overtime issues with all covered employee groups.

Negotiations continued the week of March 4, 2019, at Southwest Airlines Headquarters Dallas, Texas.  Your Negotiation Committee started the week with continued work on open issues.  Extensive dialog took place with the Company regarding Article Seven (Overtime) with a focus on Customer Service Agent Overtime.

Negotiations continued at Southwest Airlines Headquarters Dallas, Texas February 26 – 28, 2019. To date, Agreements in Principle have been reached on clarification language. This week discussions continued with the following Articles; Two (Scope of Agreement), Five (Classifications), Six (Hours of Service), Ten (Part -Time), Eleven (Filling of Vacancies), Twelve (Leaves of Absence), Seventeen (Safety and Health) and Twenty-Two (Holidays/Flexible Time Off). The team holds steadfast to the memberships proposals and surveys addressing quality of life issues.

We are currently scheduled to resume sessions March 5 – 8 and April 2 – 4 2019 in Dallas, Texas.
