The results show that Dora Cervantes has been re-elected as the IAM’s General Secretary-Treasurer. Complete results by local lodge will be released on goIAM.org in the coming days.

Work Safe.  Those two words are more important than ever right now for the American Airlines members of Victory Lodge 1725. Aviation is a very unforgiving industry when it comes to mistakes. With all the different distractions that we deal with at work, the state of our current contract negotiations for example, it is critical, that each and every one of us is as methodical, diligent, and focused as possible on safety.

Be sure to follow the ROM (Ramp Operations Manual), GPM (General Procedures Manual), etc. as well as all applicable aircraft maintenance manuals TO THE LETTER! No … Read More...

The phrase “Know Your Enemy” is a saying derived from Sun Tzu’s “Art of War.” As a union we often mistake the company as our enemy. The company may be our adversary, but it is not our enemy. The two however are interconnected. As a Union our enemy is membership apathy. Apathy is defined as “a state of indifference” and it is the life blood of inaction. Inaction is the lifeblood of our adversary.

Unions are only as strong as their members level of engagement. When Unions are in tough times and they need strength to achieve what their … Read More...

Presidents Report

This month I had the privilege of attending the 2017 IAMAW Transportation Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was the first time I have attended an IAMAW conference and several things stuck with me as I left to come home.

First the good news. I was able to hear from a lot of very dedicated IAMAW members working and fighting on your behalf. AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka, IAMAW I.P. Bob Martinez, TWU President Harry Lombardo, GVP of Transportation Sito Pantoja, and Attorney Joe Guerrieri were among the many speakers at this conference. They along with their staff and … Read More...

In Victory Lodge 1725’s continuing efforts to support and serve our members, it my pleasure to announce the formation of a new committee designed to do just that for a special group of our brothers and sisters, our veterans. “Right to work.”  There is not a more anti-labor phrase in the English language. To the uninformed “Right to Work” may sound like a good thing, but the reality is far, far different.

Corporations, Chambers of Commerce, and anti-labor legislators for a long time have falsely promoted this innocent sounding phrase by saying that it is all about allowing the worker to have free choice and that it’s not fair to make someone pay for union dues as a condition of employment. That’s what they want you to believe, but don’t be fooled. Calling “Right to Work” good … Read More...
