January 17, 2021 Admin 0

January 16, 2021

With the recent approval of the Payroll Support Program (PSP2), we have been working to make sure Association represented employees who were impacted in the October reductions are recalled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreements. After several discussions with American Airlines management, your Association Leadership has been informed that, beginning Tuesday, January 19, 2021, notices for Article (6) preferential recall will be sent via FedEx to those members who were reduced, displaced, bumped or furloughed.

A few key highlights that members need to be aware of:

Updated HEROES Act Introduced as Time Runs Out for Airline Workers

Texas Senator Cornyn’s Support Boosts Chances for Passage in the Senate
On Monday evening, House Democrats led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced a revised version of the HEROES Act, which includes $25 billion in funding for airline workers and another $3 billion for airline contractors. With a bipartisan majority of members of the House of Representatives on record supporting an extension of the Payroll Support Act (PSP), if the bill earns support in the Republican-controlled Senate, the eventual extension of the funding is all but assured.

There are only six days remaining before the PSP expires, and without a clean extension, hundreds of thousands of airline workers face the possibility of being furloughed.

We need all our members, their families, and friends to contact their senators to get Congress to act NOW before the current PSP expires. It only takes … Read More...

August 26, 2020 Admin 0

August 25, 2020

Currently, most of our members are at work, receiving a paycheck and have their benefits still intact, even though the airline industry has taken a severe hit because of COVID-19. As a result, many of our airlines have started preparing for reductions by issuing Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifications (WARN) notices to their employees. Just today, American Airlines announced they will begin issuing furlough notices beginning Thursday. Over 800 Mechanic and Related … Read More...

Without PSP, AA Cuts 40,000

August 26, 2020 Admin 0

August 26, 2020

American Airlines announced plans to eliminate the jobs of “at least” 40,000 employees.

The furloughs would begin within hours of the expiration of the Payroll Support Program (PSP), the section of the CARES Act scheduled to end on October 1, just over a month before Election Day. The IAM has responded by calling on members to make a last stand on Capitol Hill and redouble efforts to convince lawmakers to renew funding for the PSP, which has stalled in the Senate. Airline executives agree that legislative action, if taken soon, would prevent the job cuts.
