Alaska Airlines Union Leadership Changes Announced

As you may be aware, Jeff Tobius was recently appointed to the IAM’s Transportation Department as a Special Representative. District 142 appointed Special Representative Jason McAdoo to fill Jeff’s General Chair position and Dan Suafoa was appointed to fill the Special Representative position. We have gone over all the assignments for the Alaska reps, made a few adjustments and they are listed below:

Alaska Airlines Ratification Update

Ratification for the Alaska COPS and RSSA Agreements took place July 8 through August 9, 2019.

Both agreements PASSED by over 90% of the respective members that voted.

The newly approved tentative agreements provide for 10-16% pay increases on average, increase in 401k contributions, work protection for the life of the Agreements plus 2 years (7years in total), decreased health insurance premiums, and much more. Your Negotiating Committee is pleased to announce a Tentative Agreement (TA) has been reached with Alaska Airlines for the COPS and RSSA agreements, respectively.

The TA provides many changes, some of which include:

  • 5 year Agreement with Work Protection.
    • All work currently performed exclusively by IAM members at each location on the Alaska Airlines’ system is protected, and the Company is prohibited from outsourcing such work for the entire term of the contract plus two years
  • 10%-16% increase on base wages on date of ratification
  • Downline increases that put both COPS and RSSA members

The joint Alaska Airlines Negotiating Committee continued negotiations with Alaska Airlines management June 11-12, 2019, in Seattle, Washington.

We made significant progress this week, and to build on that progress, your Committee will be meeting informally with the Alaska Airlines Negotiating Committee next week in Seattle, Washington.
